Welcome to the Bradford LETS (Local Exchange Trading Scheme) - a community based website for West Yorkshire.
The scheme provides a way for people to link up, employ each other to do jobs, purchase goods and services from each other, all without the need for hard currency; In essence a bartering system or local currency.
'Its like doing favours for each other'
It is completely free to join for individuals and businesses, you can advertise your skills, talents and produce and make requests.
When you do a 'favour' for someone, it's recorded electronically, allowing you to recall that 'favour' from someone else. No hard cash is involved (except to cover costs)- all 'favours' are 'rated' depending on their 'size'.
You work - you earn - you spend - just like cash!
Members are required to cover the cost of any materials, for example; a builder will request you purchase the bricks etc, before building you a barbecue. You repay the labour by doing someone else a favour. All favours are recorded and passed around.
Favours are measured in the currency of Looms. You can charge what you like, but most people are comfortable with the approximation that
1 Hours work = 4 Looms.
Services range from plumbing, handy man services, gardening to baking, making pots of jam and dog walking. We all have someone to offer, but you may not have realised it until now! You can also request a service, so even if it's not advertised - a member may be able to supply it (or know someone who can).
Established businesses can join too, reducing overheads, increasing profits, beating the competition.
All members are provided with an online account, which allows them to instantly start earning, purchasing and being involved.
LETS schemes are a great way for people on limited incomes to make their money go further.
